On some days it is my pleasure to ask, "what should I eat?" but imagine what it is like for those whose question is

"Will I eat?"
Hunger is something that we all have experienced in our lives on a very small level, but it is difficult and painful to imagine what real starvation feels like for those around the world. Hunger has a damaging effects and it even takes lives.

The stats of starvation are horrible, but we have the power to make a big impact.

Hip Hop artists, fans, and those who simply want to help are coming together on February 27 to raise money to combat hunger in Africa, we all can make a difference. They need our help and with your help we can change lives, maybe even save some.

Can you be specific please. What country in africa?
How is the money to be used? If you give food aid for free, how will that help the african farmer to provide food for his/her neighbour? How would you feel to spend you time growing corn, you come to harvest and then some foreigner goes and gives away corn for free.

Good luck rapping. Three rapper to study before you next approach the mike: krs one, chuck d, rakim

I'm glad that you care about this and those are some very good points! Basically, we'll be raising money and giving it to the charity WorldVision for the purpose of fighting hunger in Africa, which I understand is kinda broad, sorry!

In terms of a specific country or town, between now and the next week there could be a new emergency in Africa, which I read is the continent that has the biggest need for food aid. So I was keeping it broad because WorldVision understands better than I do about where it is most needed.

In terms of what type of food-aid, it's a good thing that we'll be giving the money to a REAL charity who studies these things and THEY will be in charge of that. You probably don't want me, a high school student, to be in charge of what type of food-aid is used, and how it is used, so WorldVision will be doing that.

You can read their policies on food aid at http://www.worldvision.org/worldvision/wvususfo.nsf/stable/globalissues-foodaid?Open

My personal opinion is that the hunger problem is complicated and buying food and giving it away is not necessarily the best way to go, depending on the situation. If there is a full-on regional famine and even the farmer is starved, then it's a different situation, but there are other types of food-aid that are described at that link.

It would be awesome if this money could be used in ways that help hunger but also deal with the causes of hunger. Even with my limited knowledge about world hunger I just wanted to do something to bring a little relief to someone in a huge problem that doesn't have a simple solution.
